27 January - Total Recall

I woke up thinking, what am I going to cook for dinner tonight? Then I realised  I still had chockos and tomatoes and prawns.

I remembered that Mom used to cooked something with these ingredients and it was yummy. So recalling the deep recesses of mind, going through the clutter in there, I recalled somehow how to put it all together...though it wasn't very clear.

I usually cook the dishes that I'm sure I could make or if I had the recipe by hand, but this was a total recall and take your chances...so I was inspired!

I had this memory that I recalled of my Mom getting me to peel the chokos, this has always been a pet hate of mine. When you peel this weird looking vegetable it leaves your hands all sticky and when you think you've washed it all off...your hand dries and it feels really tight then you realise, urrrghhhh it didn't wash off!

Though I wonder if anyone out there has somehow managed to see the good side of this vegetable...it could be a really good natural face mask...don't know the benefits but heck you could just peel the thing and wipe it all over your face...good luck trying to take it off though :)

Anyways I put the dish together and I was staring at it thinking, my Mom's dish was definitely a lot more darker than this almost orange like...then I realised it must be the Achewete (is that how you spell it) so I put it, VOILA...all from memory I replicated it! How happy was I?

Just so I remember for myself I'm putting the recipe on here:
Prawns & Chokos
1 Choko peeled and sliced
1 Onion
1/2 kilo of Prawns (deveined)
3 cloves garlic
3 tomatoes
salt and pepper to taste
Method
Preparation of prawn broth
Take heads and sautee in oil and garlic
Pour in water and simmer and put aside

Sautee the garlic and onions until onion is translucent
Mix in tomatoes and place prawn broth and simmer for 5 mins or until tomatoes disintergrate and soup and thick add Achewete
Place chokos and simmer until tender
Place prawns and simmer for 15 mins
Add salt and pepper to taste

So Mom you think I did it right?
